37-21….Need I Say More

It has officially been waaaayyyyy to long since I have blogged so be prepared for a lengthy one. I have been mostly distracted by Cubs games.

I have tons of things to say about the Cubs. THIS IS THEIR YEAR!!

Let’s start with this…37-21….. W O W ! ! ! ! !

The Cubs have the best record in the entire MLB. When the Cubs have the leading record in the beginning of June, history reports that they win the Pennant which was true for their 1908 season.

                                       THIS IS THEIR YEAR

The Cubs beat the Padres last night 7-6 in the first game of their three game series. Zambrano struggled a little early in the game which is unusual for him this season, but made up for it with his at bats.

Zambrano had three hits, including a game-tying RBI triple. He picked up his seventh consecutive win for the season and the Cubs picked up their eighth win in a row. Not a bad way to start off a long road trip.

Eight in a row = 3 1/2 game lead in their division. Go Cubs Go, Go Cubs Go, Hey Chicago Whatta You say, The Cubs Are Gonna Win Today.

There has been talk that the Cubs wins don’t really mean much because they have not been playing stiff competition……. Were those same people following the amazing 10-9 comeback against the Rockies last Friday. They came back form an 8-0 deficit. It was only 9-1 in the sixth. But the Cubs kept fighting and in the end came out with the win. If that doesn’t prove to those doubters that the Cubs are a force to be reckon with this season then just tap ‘em on the back and tell ‘em….

                                       THIS IS THEIR YEAR

Right now the Cubs are the All Star Team. Seven of the eight Cubs starters are among the top five vote getter’s. SEVEN out of EIGHT.

D. Lee is in 3rd place to start at first, DeRosa is in 2nd for second, Theriot is in fourth for short, Rami is in 3rd for third, and Soriano, Fukudome, and Soto are all in place to start at their respected positions. That’s what I’m talking about!

Soto may very well become the first National League rookie catcher to start an All-Star Game. Fukudome would be the first rookie outfielder to start a Midsummer Classic since his fellow countryman Ichiro Suzuki did so in 2001.

Not to mention Geo Soto is well on his way to becoming rookie of the year (sorry Fukudome). Talk about stepping up to one of the most difficult positions on the field and dominating. Soto has had very few days off, but he doesn’t seem to need the rest. I’m tellin you….

                                       THIS IS THEIR YEAR

The Cubs are having an amazing season so far and that is something that no one can deny. With six games remaining on their road trip they are on their way to improving their road game record, 11-13. Tonight is a late night game vs the Rockies. I’m sure the Cubs will read me a great bed time story.

Until next game…………

The Cubs Sang Me A Lullaby Last Night

It has been a while since I blogged, my apologies. On the upside I avoided having to report on the slump that the Cubs were in.

I went to last nights game vs San Diago andd it was great. The Cubs sang me a sweet lullaby last night with a 12-3 victory. Not only that….Big Z waited for me!!!

Zambrao was set to pitch on Sunday against the Diamondbacks, but as a a reasult of the weather both teams decided to save their starting pitchers for the following game.

I was definitely not complaining and neither were the fans at Wrigley Field.

Weather Conditions: UN-BREW-ABLE

I was waiting for the Cubs to come home from their 5 game road trip, but last night’s game was not how I pictured it. Struggling on the road losing 3 of the 5 games the Cubs really need last nights win. The Fans needed last nights win. Still clinching to first place by percentage points the Cubs need to figure things out and they need to do it fast.

Everyone was so concerned with predicting the number of losses Kerry Wood would earn this year they forgot to look at the rest of the bullpen. Never mind the slugfest the Brewers were on last night. How about the crapfest the bullpen was having. I was at last night’s game and it was a whole lot warmer outside compared to arms of Hart, Marshall and Wuertz. Right now the best way to describe the bullpen is dysfunctional. With Marquis and Leber used to playing the starting positions and are now being counted on for only a few innings at a time things all over the place.

Big Lou agrees saying “Our pitching wasn’t good tonight. We’ve got to do a better job in the middle before we get to our short people. That’s been a problem for awhile.”

Now that he has the problem narrowed down lets see what he does about it.

Soriano is coming back to play on Thursday and everyone is anxiously waiting to see where he is going to fit back in the lineup. First or Fifth? Does it really matter if we cant play defense?

We need a win and we need it today. We can’t let the Brewers be the ones to take us out of first. Lets see if we can shake the funk off tonight.

Sweep, Sweep, Sweep….So SWEET

The Cubs swept the New York Mets this afternoon 8-1. Ronny Cedano had 5 runs including a grand slam in the bottom of the 8th. This is the best first 20 games the Cubs have played since 1975. They are currently number one in the NL Central Division with a booming record of 14-6.

The New York Mets are the third team that the Cubs have swept in the series in this early season. Who is going to be the next victim? Cubs fans are excited about the excellent start the Cubs have gotten off to this season. On game day the energy around and in Wrigley Field is tremendous. Cubs fans have waited for this for a very long time. They are keeping hope alive that no one is going to rain on their parade.

Their year?!?!?! This can be the year that they go all the way. In an interview with ESPN 1000’s radio personalities, Waddle and Silvy, today Zambrano admitted that the best “team” he has seen on the Cubs is the 2003 team, but with a little hard work he feels that this years team can reach that potential too. Zambrano said that they need to work on their offense and their pitching some more and then they will be the team they need to be.

Cubs pitcher Ted Lilly got off to a rough start this season, but today he finally won his first game for the ‘08 season. The Cubs have won five straight now, but remain focused and are taking each game very seriously. They are not thinking about a World Series just yet, but it is fair to say that they are one of the best contenders so far.

CUBS ARE 7-5…BETTER START THIS SEASON!!

Ok, ok so we all know that it has been 100 years since the Cubs have won the World Series Championship Title…… so is this the year?!?!?!?

Right now they are sitting third in the central division. Mr. D. Lee has gotten off to a great start with 4 home-runs for the season so far and following him is Rami with 3, Soriano, Soto, and DeRosa with 2, Fontenot and FUKUDOME also put one on the board so far. The Cubs have already been over 500 in this early season and if you ask any Cubs fan if this is the season…. all signs are pointing to Y E S ! !Ahh Sweet Lou

C’mon how long did it take us to get started last year…..until Zambrano knocked one into Barret……until Lou gave the ump a face wash with his saliva…… we were half way through the season before someone lit a fire under their A—-S!!

BUT NOT THIS TIME AROUND
.

Things are looking good for the Cubs. Today they face the Reds and with one days rest I’m predicting another win! And guess who’s back in town tonight…Dusty Baker. Will he get a warm welcome? Will he be boo’ed?? Does anyone even care???
